Langley’s TWU runner third overall at BMO Vancouver half marathon

Lisa Brooking was the top Canadian woman in the race with a personal record time of 1:16.03 over 21 kilometres.

Trinity Western University athlete Lisa Brooking finished third overall and was the top Canadian woman in the half marathon last Sunday, during the BMO Vancouver Marathon weekend.

Brooking, an Orillia, Ont., native who joined the Spartans last fall and is working towards her masters degree in nursing, posted a personal record time of 1:16.03 over 21 kilometres, bettering her previous best by nearly three minutes.

The TWU track and field and cross country star was also the only non-Kenyan to reach the podium in the men’s and women’s half marathon events.

In her first year with TWU, Brooking finished seventh overall at the CIS national cross country championships and helped the Spartans to a CIS silver medal in the team event and a third straight Canada West team title. On the track, she captured a bronze medal in the 3000m at the Canada West championships.

This past spring she also represented Canada at the 2016 Pan Am Cross Country Cup in Venezuela, where she finished fifth overall.
