Aldergrove skaters begin new season

All seven Aldergrove Skating Club Synchronized Skating teams participated in exhibition

All seven Aldergrove Skating Club Synchronized Skating teams participated in the Greater Vancouver annual Gala Exhibition on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the South Surrey arena.

“A big thank you to the Greater Vancouver Synchonized skating club for hosting such a fantastic event,” said club spokesperson Colleen Laferriere.

The Aldergrove teams range in age from six to 60-plus, practice once a week and are coached by Colleen Laferriere and Natasha Klop. This was the team’s first skate of the season, preparing for the competitive year.

The teams are Beginner 1 Snowflakes, Elementary Snow Crystals, Juvenile Icicles, Pre-Novice Black Ice, Intermediate Ice Angels, Adult 2 Ice Spirits, and Adult 3 Ice Silhouette.

The first competition of the season, BC/YK Open is next weekend at South Surrey arena, at which teams from all over B.C. will be participating.

The Intermediate competitive team will be travelling to Ontario in January to compete at Winterfest against teams from all over Canada.

Then in late January the Juvenile, Pre-Novice, Intermediate and Adult 2 teams will travel to Edmonton to Western divisionals. The Intermediates will be trying to qualify at this competition so that they can then travel back to Ontario to compete at Nationals in Oshawa in late February.

There will be one more competition in February in Delta and the Aldergrove club’s annual Pop Concert in March for a very busy season.

“The teams have all worked hard and are ready to have a fun and successful season,” said Laferriere.
