Aldergrove Kodiaks roll to three in a row

The Aldergrove Kodiaks are on a roll.

Aldergrove’s junior B hockey team – which is now 9-8-2-4 on the season and sits alone in third place in the Pacific Junior Hockey League’s Harold Brittain Conference – is riding a three-game undefeated streak with an overtime victory versus Abbotsford on home ice last Wednesday, and road wins over Ridge Meadows on Friday, and Mission City on Saturday.

Kodiaks 7, Mission City Outlaws 4

The Kodiaks’ latest win was on the road at the Mission Leisure Centre, where they jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead before cruising to a 7-4 victory.

After Spencer McHaffie opened the scoring, Aaron Markin and Jordan Funk scored 1:40 apart to give the Kodiaks a three-goal cushion.

The Kodiaks led 3-1 after the first period and 4-2 after 40 minutes after Funk scored his second of the night on an Aldergrove power play, 3:18 into the middle frame.

In the third period Scott McHaffie gave the Kodiaks a 5-3 lead at the 9:35 mark.

The Outlaws scored on a power play with 6:09 remaining and then pulled their goaltender late in a desperate attempt to get back into the game.

This gave Aldergrove’s Brandon Dolby an opportunity seal the win with an empty net goal at the 18:39 mark.

The teams exchanged goals in the final minute to close out the scoring.

Aaron Markin scored Aldergrove’s final goal of the night, with 17 seconds to play.

The Kodiaks play Tuesday on the road against the Delta Ice Hawks.

Their next home game is this Wednesday against the Port Moody Panthers at Aldergrove Arena. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
