Vehicle suffers mysterious explosion in Cloverdale

Explosives experts are looking into damage to a car.

Police are investigating after a suspected explosion in a car in Cloverdale on Dec. 5.

The Surrey RCMP were called out when damage to a car – initially thought to be a mechanical fault – was deemed suspicious, said Cpl. Scotty Schumann.

The vehicle had been in the area of 184th Street and 60th Avenue at the time.

It was later discovered that the damage was possibly caused by a single, localized explosion.

The Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit is working with the Integrated Forensic Identification Service and the Explosive Disposal Unit on the investigation.

Officers are poring over the car and the site where the explosion happened, and will be looking for surveillance video or any witnesses who may have seen something suspicious in the area.

Anyone with more information is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, to remain anonymous, contact CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.solvecrime.ca.
