Vancouver Aquarium’s Qila dies at 21 years old

The announcement was made in a blog post called “Remembering Qila"

The Vancouver Aquarium’s beluga whale Qila has died at 21 years old.

The announcement was made in a blog post on the Aquarium’s website, where Qila’s death was described as a “sudden loss.”

Qila was the first-ever beluga whale to be born in a Canadian Aquarium in July of 1995, and was one of two beluga whales at the aquarium including her mother, Aurora.

The details surrounding Qila’s death have not been released at this time.

Moving forward, Aquarium staff will turn “our attention to beluga whale Aurora as she adjusts to the change.”

“She was a delight for our team of staff and volunteers every single day — always the first to give us a wink, a little tail flap or a head bob in the morning. It is difficult to put into words the love we all had for her. We will miss her immensely,” the blog post read.
