A Surrey teen is dead after a tree fell on him at Clayton Heights Secondary school on Friday afternoon.
Surrey School District’s Doug Strachan told the Surrey Now that the boy died of his injuries.
Surrey’s deputy Fire Chief Larry Thomas said the call came in just before 2:30 p.m. at the school, which is located at 6965 188th St.
When first responders arrived, they found the boy in a wooded area near the school, with a tree on top of him.
The boy was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
“The Surrey RCMP Youth Section is currently investigating this incident in partnership with the BC Coroner’s Service. It appears that high winds may have caused the tree to break, causing this unfortunate accident.,” said RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann.
The Surrey RCMP has issued a public advisory for people to stay out of wooden areas during this inclement weather.
