Suspect nabbed in sex assaults

A man followed women into a Langley business before it opened, police say.

A suspected sex offender has been arrested following a quick investigation by Langley RCMP.

On Nov. 17, two female employees entered a Willowbrook-area business, and both were assaulted.

A man  followed the first employe into the foyer of the locked business just after 8 a.m., said Cpl. Holly Largy, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

After exchanged a few words, the man touched the woman in a sexual manner. She pushed him away and he ran out of the foyer.

A short time later another woman encountered the suspect and was also touched in a sexual manner, Largy said.

The man then ran from the business.

Video surveillance footage helped police identify a suspect, said Largy. As investigators were nailing down the suspect’s likely identity, they received a report of a man acting suspiciously in the Willowbrook area. Officers took him into custody.

Dana Gary Sellars-Newberry, of no fixed address, is being held in custody and has been charged with two counts of sexual assault.

He is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on Nov. 24.

High quality surveillance was helpful in a quick identification, noted Supt. Murray Power, officer in charge of the Langley RCMP.

“More and more businesses are choosing to install good quality surveillance, which allows us to expedite our investigations which ultimately makes our community that little bit safer,” said Power.
