A Cloverdale post office was evacuated by police and scoured by a hazmat team on Wednesday morning after a suspicious white powder spilled out of a package.
The temporary evacuation was ended by mid-morning when the substance was confirmed as a harmless veterinary supplement, according to Surrey RCMP.
The incident began when Canada Post workers reported a large amount of white powder spilling out of a package at about 5:35 p.m.
Police were called in, and the precaution of evacuating the building was taken.
The Surrey Fire Department Hazmat team took over to test and determine if the substance was dangerous.
No one was injured and no employees were taken to hospital.
Early reports that there had been some kind of explosion were false, according to the RCMP.
After the powder was determined to be harmless, police said that there was no criminal activity suspected. The owner of the package had been contacted.
