Langley child actor’s ‘star power’ shining bright

Ten-year-old actor Jacob Tremblay received another award for his acting in Room.

Set to appear in five feature films this year alone, a ten-year-old Langley actor is garnering a lot of attention for his acting abilities.

The spotlight is on young Jacob Tremblay again this week, after being crowned the best emerging actor

Jacob’s big break came when he played Jack Newsome – co-starring alongside William H. Macy – in the 2015 film Room.

He’s apparently showing his “star power” in a number of other movies, including playing Cody in a show called Before I Wake, cast as Wes Firth in Burn Your Maps, playing Tom Patterson in Shut In, starring as Peter Carpenter in The Book of Henry, and playing ‘kid 4’ in a show called Donald Trump’s The Art of the Deal: The Movie.

He also appeared in the Pitch Black episode of The Last Man on Earth, this year.

This Gordon Greenwood Elementary student turned 10 in early October and is a self-proclaimed Lego enthusiast and Star Wars fanatic. He aspires to be a script writer and director when he grows up.

His father, Jason, is a police detective, while hs mother Christina is a homemaker.

Jake, as he’s known by his friends, is the middle child, sandwiched between older sister Emma and younger sister Erica, who are also actors.

Among the industry awards and nominations he has received, Jake won the Critics’ Choice best young actor award in January, the breakthrough performance award at the Satellite Special Achievement Awards in February, and the best performance by an actor in a leading role at the Canadian Screen Awards in March.

Now, he can add accolades from the Union of British Columbia Performers and Canadian Cinema, Television, and Radio Artists. The award for the best emerging actor was bestowed on him this past weekend at the Vancouver Playhouse.

Tremblay beat out five other emerging artists for the title.

Recognition was also given to the best actor Aleks Paunovic from Numb, Camille Sullivan for best actress in The Birdwatcher, best voice was given to Lee Tockar of Slugterra, and the best stunt award went to Adrian Hein for his work on Arrow.
