Crashes riddle Langley

During a wet Monday, emergency responders in Langley were kept busy responding to a number of crashes.

As a rainfall warning was issued by Environment Canada, there were a series of crashes from the TransCanada Highway to the Golden Ears Bridge to Glover Road.

At mid-afternoon, a crash on Glover Road required Langley Township firefighters to use rescue gear to extract the trapped driver from a CN Rail vehicle. The truck was a modified vehicle capable of running on either road or rails.

It tipped nose-first into a ditch at the intersection of Glover Road and Smith Crescent.

Firefighters managed to open the door and extract the driver.

He appeared to be unharmed and walked to a waiting ambulance, but firefighters could not confirm his status by press time.

The investigation of the crash was being undertaken by WorkSafe BC, said Cpl. Holly Marks, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

Heavy rain was expected to continue into the evening, and it was the first weekday of early darkness due to the switch from Daylight Savings Time on the weekend.
