Arson suspected in Langley RV dealership fire

Langley Mounties have taken over the investigation into a suspicious fire that destroyed a motor home at a dealership on the Bypass early Friday.

Something alerted the alarm company, which activated a camera at the Travel Land lot. Security employees called 911 to report the fire just before 12:30 a.m., said assistant fire chief Pete Methot.

The fire was confined to the single motorhome, with the heat damaging a nearby motorhome as well, said Methot. The fire was fully involved at one end of the RV when crews arrived.

Despite it not being an enormous fire, the City crews called in backup from Langley Township firefighters.

“There was a fairly large propane tank within close proximity,” Methot said.

In the end, the tank didn’t suffer any damage and the extra backup could stand down.

The fire was likely deliberately set. City fire investigators went over the wreckage once the sun was up, alongside RCMP investigators.

The file has now been handed over to the Mounties to investigate, said Methot.
