Armed robbery suspect charged

A fumble-fingered robbery suspect has been arrested.

Langley RCMP believe they have their man after the same person robbed or attempted to rob a City pharmacy.

On July 9, a man entered the IDA Pharmacy carrying a baton-style weapon and a canister of bear spray and jumped over the counter. He charged at staff, fleeing a few minutes later with several bottles of prescription medication.

Police believe it was the same man who returned to rob the pharmacy again on July 27. This time, he was masked, but the robbery failed.

The suspect’s collapsible baton failed to extend, and the suspect ran away before he made contact with the pharmacy’s staff.

Investigators believe the man was Scott Daniel Johnson, 24, and now charged with robbery and disguising his face with intent to commit an offense.

“This individual is in custody as a direct result of the professional and diligent work by members of the Langley RCMP General Duty and Serious Crimes Unit who were able to quickly identify this individual,” said Insp. Shawn Boudreau, Langley RCMP’s operations support officer. “Anytime we can minimize or remove an element of harm to our community is a successful day in policing.”

Johnson has been released from custody with a recognizance order and several conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 11.
