Video for ‘Traveling Light’ reveals previously unseen Leonard Cohen footage

Music video reveals unseen Cohen footage

TORONTO — A new music video assembled by Leonard Cohen’s son and another longtime collaborator is giving fans an intimate glimpse of the late singer.

“Traveling Light,” directed by Sammy Slabbinck, was posted online Thursday and offers an array of archival and previously unseen footage.

Its opening scene features Cohen sitting on a porch reflecting on his health.

“I feel a lot stronger, but I’m actually a lot weaker,” he says to the interviewer while smoking a cigarette.

“I wake up in my bed and I feel like, ‘That’s how I used to feel.’ Not exactly but, you know. And then I swing my legs off the bed and I try to stand up.”

Archival moments and some more recent footage of the poet and composer run throughout the rest of the lyric video.

The project was compiled by Slabbinck, who designed the cover of Cohen’s 2016 album “You Want It Darker.” He said in a Facebook post that Cohen’s son Adam offered “excellent guidance” throughout the process of making the clip.

“As a lifelong fan myself I created a memorial video to commemorate the man,” he wrote.

Cohen died in November at 82, shortly after releasing his final album to critical acclaim.
