VIDEO: Millionare Lottery launch showcases luxury homes up for grabs

Come February, seven lucky winners will be walking through the front doors of their dream home, as part of this year's Millionaire Lottery.

Come February, one lucky winners will be walking through the front doors of their dream home, as part of the VGH and UBC Hospital Foundation’s Millionaire Lottery.

And the winner has seven options to choose from, each located in communities across the province – from Osoyoos to White Rock to North Vancouver.

Tickets to be in the running for the prize homes benefit Vancouver General Hospital and its surrounding programs at UBC Hospital, the G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, and Vancouver Community Health Services.

Foundation senior vice president Angela Chapman said about $2 million is raised each year in ticket sales, totaling $50 million during the foundation’s 21 years of hosting the lottery.

Whereas last year’s lottery sales benefited the construction of a new hybrid operating room, funds this year will go towards lower-priced equipment necessary for the acute treatment offered to about 600,000 residents from across the province annually, Chapman explained.

Kinds of equipment in need of replacement include hepatitis detection systems and ventilator systems for ICUs.

“Its not sexy to donors but critical for care,” she said of the equipment. “And the impact is enormous.”

Vancouver General Hospital assists patients with acute and complex cancers, as well as liver, lung, pancreas and bone marrow transplants, with 50 per cent of patients coming from outside of the Vancouver central area.

During a media launch Wednesday, foundation members and others got to tour through one of the prize homes in South Langley.

Built by Kaz Noori and Sharon Kaby, and designed by Debbie Heal, the brand new Langley home includes modern-meets-European design both inside and out. Features include five bedrooms, a music room, a gym, and a spa, with $150,000 in furnishings and appliances.

Heal said the trick is to design the house in a comfortable way, while maintaining it’s luxury feel.

Other prize homes are located in White Rock, Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, Vancouver Island, Kelowna and Osoyoos.

Tours are offered daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the deadline to purchase tickets are Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 at midnight.

Tickets are available by phone 604-602-5848 or toll free at 1-888-445-5825, at London Drugs, VGH, or the Grand Prize homes and online at millionairelottery.com.
