Up for a run in the country this Sunday?
Langley Meals on Wheels invites people to participate in its second annual 5k and 1k Great Pumpkin & Little Pumpkin fundraiser, and make a move to end hunger.
Proceeds go to help a growing number of nutritionally at-risk members in Langley.
The event starts and ends at Aldor Acres, 24990 84th Ave., this Sunday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. Entry fees are: child $5, adult $10, family $25, team $50.
Participants can register at the event starting at 9 a.m., up to race time.
All finishers receive post-race refreshments, a chance to win great prizes, free admittance into Aldor Acres Farm and a free pumpkin!
The subsidy program is vital to many, according to Meals on Wheels clients.
“When you are getting to my age and trying to exist on a lousy pension, Meals on Wheels is a God send. If it wasn’t for your subsidized Meals Program I wouldn’t be eating properly and most likely be back in the hospital.” said one client who is a veteran.
Added another client, “When I got home from surgery I was lost with very little mobility. I reached out to you and not only did you help get things started for me quickly, but you subsidized my meals… as a single mom off work, you saved me!” client.
Tax-deductible donations support our at-risk neighbors, and go a long way, noted the organization: $20 provides six meals, $50 provides 15 meals, $75 provides 23 meals, and $100 provides one month of meals to those in need.
Langley Meals on Wheels is a non-profit charitable society that supplies nutritious home-style meals for anyone who requires temporary or long-term meal assistance, in the City and Township of Langley.
