The Fraser Valley Rock and Gem Show is shining a light on a world most people never see.
For its annual show Sept. 19 and 20 the club is adding a light display. Using long wave and short wave lights on various rocks and gems will show them in a whole new light.
As in previous shows, there will be on-site demonstrations.
“Demonstrators will be on hand to show how the rocks can become a masterpiece,” explained Rozalia Brown, who chairs the show committee.
Each day of the show typically attracts 200 to 250 people.
“People come back each year for the interest of rocks and what can be made of it, and add to their collection,” she said. “Children are especially fascinated by natures creations.”
The show starts at 10 a.m. both days. It runs to 5 p.m. on Sept. 19 and until 4 p.m. on Sept. 20.
Club members will be showing their handiwork and collections.
“On Saturday and Sunday we have minerals, rocks, crystals, and jewelry sale by members,” Brown said.
There will be displays involving rocks, crystals, gemstones, minerals, jewelry and lapidary supplies. Demonstrations will feature a carving silversmith and beading.
As well there will be a silent auction and door prizes.
Admission is by donation and the show is at the Old Age Pensioners Hall, 3015 273rd. St.
