Local kids fundraised to help counterparts in Kenya.

Empty cans and bottles scooped up by Walnut Grove area kids have paid for Kenyan school equipment.

Classmates at West Langley Elementary and Kids in the Grove child care raised the money and donated $1,000 to the Jipe Moyo Nursery School in Kenya for playground and soccer equipment.

Parent Kim Wishinski, and owner of Kids in the Grove, shared the news about the kids efforts with the newspaper.

The kids raised $730 from the cans and bottles, and donated the rest to bring the total up to $1,000.

Wishinski noted the students in Kenya sent over photos and a video to thank the Langley kids.

“The headbands on their heads are names of our kids,” she said. “Each child said hello to each of our kids and then who they are. It’s so cool.”
