Apple a day: Customers at Real Canadian SuperStore and TD Bank in Willowbrook dug deep into their pockets this weekend to help raise money for the Langley Meadows scout troop, which represents about 45 local kids in beavers, cubs, scouts, and venturers. Most of the kids, including seven-year-old Beaver Matthew Kilner-Norman and 10-year-old cub Lucia Martinez were out collecting Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday, receiving contributions ranging from a Loonie up to $20 in exchange for an apple. Cloverdale’s Krista Riggs (right) was among donors. The tally for the weekend fundraiser was in the neighbourhood of $1,600. A total of 45 kids from aged 5 to 14 participated. Our group is parent sponsored and supported so we do a number of fundraising events to help purchase craft supplies and group equipment and off set camp and event costs for our members throughout the year. The group’s next community fundraiser will be a bottle drive in early November followed by a second bottle drive in January. (Roxanne Hooper/Langley Advance)
