A six-year-old Maple Ridge boy is devastated after his quarter midget racer was stolen from Aldergrove's small scale race track.
Tristen Pozsonyi has only been driving his Rice-brand quarter midget since April, but he has spent a lot of time behind the wheel and was very attached to the car, his mother Brenda said.
"He was pretty upset when we had to tell him his car was stolen," said Brenda.
Langley RCMP say the utility trailer, along with the racing vehicle, and Tristen's racing suit and helmet, went missing sometime overnight on Aug. 14 from the Langley Quarter Midget Racing Association building in the 26900 block of 8th Avenue.
The total value of the trailer, racer, and tools is about $3,500, said Cpl. Holly Marks, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.
Police are asking that anyone who spots the distinctive racer or the trailer call them.
The Pozsonyi family is also on the lookout for the trailer and its contents.
There aren't too many places in Canada to sell a quarter midget, because Aldergrove is pretty much the only track of its kind in Canada.
The family is watching Craigslist and spreading the word online to keep an eye out for the car.
They believe the thief doesn't really know what he has, said Brenda. He probably just saw the trailer and took off with it.
Meanwhile, Tristen will be back on the track soon thanks to the support of the other families that race at Langley Quarter Midget, said Brenda.
They have arranged for a temporary replacement vehicle for the young driver, which has made him feel a bit better. As his parents can't afford to buy another new $2,500 racer, his grandparents are chipping in to find a new vehicle.
Her son had a lot of questions about the theft, Brenda said, and he doesn't really understand why someone would take
"It's a really devastating loss for him," said Brenda.
It's especially hurtful because he's been doing weekend bottle drives to collect some of the money for his own racing costs. He's put in a lot of work, she said.
