The Electric Vehicle World Record Event of Pos-Abilities set a record on the weekend.

Michael Besler rode a Segway device for 24-hours straight from Saturday through to Sunday while his cousin, Matthew Mudei, rode a three-wheel electric vehicle on a course set up in the Langley Events Centre parking lot. They came from Segway Victoria.

The event was organized by the Langley Pos-Abilities Society and promoter Danny Halmo, who left from the event on a cross-Canada electric bike trip.

On July 14, there was a vehicle parade, information booths and vendors, and entertainment.

The hope was to set a few records but not enough people signed up to allow a team relay and other events.

Saturday's electric vehicle parade was named after Langley's Cliff Steele, who recently passed away. He fixed up electrical mobility vehicles for others at no cost.

While the event, which was intended as a fundraiser for the society, didn't lose money, the organizers are looking at changes for the future. Being out on cement during summer heat, for example, proved uncomfortable for some and the event may be moved somewhere more central such as Douglas Park.

"People said 'I'm bringing 10 people with me next time'," she said.

Ettenberg said the event was about creating awareness about mobility issues and the growing number of people who require devices.

"I got a lot of positive feedback," she said.
