A mysterious box left on a Langley City sidewalk resulted in police clearing the area Friday morning, but there was no bomb.
Langley RCMP blocked off 204th Street between Douglas Crescent and the access road to the Langley Lodge between about 8:30 and 9:30 a.m.
They were tipped off by a phone call about a suspicious package, said Const. Craig Van Herk, speaking for the local Mounties.
The box, about two feet long and a foot wide, was checked out by police on the scene, and discovered to be empty.
The road was quickly re-opened, but now officers are looking for a woman seen earlier in the morning carrying a similar box.
“We believe it’s a deliberate hoax,” said Van Herk.
That hasn’t been confirmed, but police would like to talk to the woman, and members of the Ident unit were checking out the box after it was determined safe.
This incident follows a false bomb threat in July that cleared out the Wal-Mart in the Willowbrook area.
