Captain justly removed from ship

Dear Editor,

There is much being said about the current Langley Board of Education, former superintendent Cheryle Beaumont, and Trustee Alison McVeigh's indiscretion. [Beaumont firing sets off trustee sniping, Jan. 26, Langley Advance].

It makes me think of a cruise ship. When the captain of a cruise ship brings it safely into port, we thank the captain. When the guests get off the ship, we thank all the workers on the ship for making it a fabulous cruise.

Like the captain, it was on the superintendent's watch, in the top job, to ensure Langley School District was in safe harbour, not millions of dollars in debt.

Like the cruise ship staff that makes your cruise memorable, it takes all school district employees to ensure student achievement, working on the ship every day.

Some of the citizens writing to your paper seem to have a problem with board chair Wendy Johnson. As far as I know, chair Johnson didn't elect the board single-handedly - weren't Langley voters involved?

J. May, Langley
