The Langley Thunder has a 2-1 lead in the Western Lacrosse Association finals after a home court win on Wednesday night.
Though the Victoria Shamrocks fought back hard, the Thunder would take the game with a 12-10 score.
The game got underway 45 minutes late, but the Thunder made up for lost time by getting the first goal and jumping out to an early lead.
At the end of the first period, the Thunder was leading the Shamrocks by 5-2. Nick Rose made 16 saves for the Thunder in the first period.
The home team came out flying in the second period and grabbed two more goals, putting the score at 7-3. The Shamrocks retaliated, rolling over a penalty-prone Thunder to come within one point, and then tying the game early in the third.
Mark Matthews potted the eighth point for the Thunder, regaining the lead while giving himself a hat trick. His fourth goal of the night would be the game winner. Garrett Billings put an insurance marker into an empty Shamrocks net as the clock ran out.
The Thunder will head back to Victoria Friday (Aug. 23) and the series will return to the Langley Events Centre on Sunday, Aug. 25 for a 5 p.m. start time.
