Demolition of the former Timms Community Centre got underway in earnest this week, and the walls started falling soon after.

The centre served as the main library of both Langleys for many years, until the new combination City Hall and library was built next door.

It was then turned into a public space serving both young and old, with exercise equipment, games, and meeting rooms.

The City has allocated $8.5 million to demolish the old building and build a new facility on the same site.

The current concept for the new Timms Centre is a 13,000-square-foot, single-storey building with a 6,000-square-foot gymnasium and underground parkade.

During the approximately two-year period of demolition and construction, the Timms Centre has been moved to the old Legion site on 56th Avenue.
