Three-second walks too short

Dear Editor,

Many signalized intersections in Langley Township and City include walk signals for pedestrians that are three seconds in duration.

Unless one is an Olympic sprinter, this is not nearly long enough for a normal person to cross from one side to the other of any street, let alone a street with multi-lanes, such as is the intersection of Langley Bypass and 200th Street.

And maybe motorists can be made aware of this traffic engineering shortcoming, and refrain from sounding their horns and gesticulating at pedestrians who appear to be walking against the "Do Not Walk" signal.

Gord Weitzel, Langley
