Friday was a busy lunchtime for Langley City fire crews as the simultaneously dealt with a car fire and a department store evacuation.

At 12:23 p.m. the fire department was dispatched to a vehicle fire in the 5700 block of Glover Road, said Pete Methot, a City fire spokesperson.

There was some concern that the fire that destroyed a four-door sedan would impact a nearby tree and business.

“They were able to confine the fire right to the car,” he said.

The incident was wrapped up just before 1 p.m. and there were no injuries.

At the same time, crews were called at 12:33 p.m. to the Army and Navy Department Store on Douglas Crescent at 203rd Street for an electrical odor.

“The store was evacuated,” Methot said.

Crews were not able to determine the cause and the store was reopened after about 45 minutes.
