PHOTOS: Arts come alive downtown

 

Pleasant weather and lots for visitors to take in made for another successful Arts Alive Festival in Langley City.

The one-way section of Fraser Highway transformed into a giant outdoor art gallery and concert venue on Saturday, as Arts Alive celebrated another successful year.

Langley’s arts and music festival attracted more than 150 visual and performing artists, and the range of mediums was very diverse, from photography to sculptures, to dreamcachers, quilts, and sewing.

There is more than to Arts Alive than art. Two stages provided musical entertainment throughout the day and for those budding young artists, the Children’s Fun Park offered the ever-popular chalk drawing on the Fraser Highway asphalt, face painting, and a colouring station, just to name a few of the activities.

Marleigh Schindell held her acrylic on canvas, named “Poinsettia.” Marleigh is a member of BridgeArt, a group of artists who belong to the Langley Association of Community Living. The artists had their work on display at this past Saturday’s Arts Alive festival in downtown Langley.

Red was the colour of the day for “Spiderman” Preston Lewis, five, who had a cornucopia of crayons to choose from at the colouring station, sponsored by the Langley Advance.
Young painters including four-year-old Kailee Fletcher were allowed the opportunity to find their inner artist at the Children’s Fun Park.

Freda Lombard’s acrylic on canvas is named Sunshine Love.
One-hundred per cent of the proceeds from the sale of cotton candy went to Doctors without Borders.
Missy Butler from Cascades Casino was the blackjack dealer at a table set up along Fraser Highway. Instead of money changing hands, she rewarded players with beads.
