Throngs of people flocked to Aldergrove Athletic Park over the weekend to help Aldergrove’s annual country fair mark a milestone.

A record number of visitors took in the 100th anniversary Aldergrove Fair Days Country Carnival.

The country fair included music, dancing, a chili cook-off, antique tractor pull, a midway and rides, 4-H animals, a farmhand challenge, the Canadian Fast Draw Championships, and the Aldergrove Financial Group Kidzone, all taking place aroundAldergrove over three days, July 20-22.

The event’s past president Mike Robinson said weather-wise, “God must have smiled on us. We’ve only had two fine days over the last several and it turned out they were Saturday and Sunday.”

Robinson, an Aldergrove Agricultural Society board member, added that there were “lots of very positive comments. We put in quite a few new features and upgraded our agricultural exhibit area and it was very well attended.”

On Friday, the Annual Aldy Show n’ Shine Classic Car Event was held.

A mid-morning parade through downtown Aldergrove was one of Saturday’s highlights.

Sunday included a scrumptious start with a pancake breakfast, sponsored by Krause Berry Farms.

In keeping with the old-time theme, the iconic Dal Richards graced the stage on Saturday night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Richards and his Orchestra of musicians captured the best of the Big Band era, along with jazz, rock and pop standards from the 1930s to today.

“Wonderful,” Robinson said, regarding the legendary Richards. “He received a standing ovation and the area in front of the stage was packed. He put on a really great show and it was a wonderful thing for Aldergrove to have someone [there] of such stature, who has been around so long.”
