A man eaten by a bear in the Interior was one of three who murdered a Langley man in the 1990s.

The man found partially eaten by at bear near Kamloops was convicted of murdering a Langley man more than 15 years ago.

Rory Wagner, 54, apparently died in a Volkswagen Jetta parked on the Long Lake forest service road about an hour southwest of Kamloops.

Several muddy animal pawprints and scratches were on the car as well as a dent in the driver’s door below the window.

The body was 120 metres away, partly covered with plant debris the bear had raked overtop.

Hunters came across the scene at about 6 p.m. Wednesday, in the bush off a pipeline cutline that was accessed from the Long Lake forest service road about an hour southwest of Kamloops.

How the man died is still under investigation, but hard drugs and alcohol were found in the car.

His body was pulled from the car, partially eaten, and covered up with plant debris by the bear.

The bear is to be destroyed when it is found by Conservation Service officers, for public safety reasons.

In 1996, Wagner, along with his brother Rob Wagner and Gerald Peter Beaugrand all pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the killing of Anthony (Andy) Kohlman, 30.

Kohlman was murdered in 1993 and his body dumped in the Fraser Valley.

The murder victim had been acquitted of sexually abusing a child related to the Wagners just before they killed him.
