The Aldergrove Totems want to be known as the 2012 Fraser Valley champions.
Aldergrove Community Secondary School's senior boys soccer team will have the chance to earn that title this Thursday (Nov. 8), when it goes up against fellow Valley finalist Arch Bishop Carney Secondary School.
Win or lose, the Totems have qualified for the B.C. AA championships, to be held Nov. 21-23 in Burnaby.
The Totems posted a 6-1-1 record during league play this season in the Langley division to top their group. As a result, they qualified for the Fraser Valley playoffs, which kicked off last week with Aldergrove hosting Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary School from Maple Ridge on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
After going down a goal in the first half, the Totems slowly took control and tied the score with 20 minutes to play.
The Totems owned SRT in overtime, capitalizing on some nice passing before scoring the go-ahead goal in the second half overtime for the win.
This victory put Aldergrove into the semifinal against the top seed in the Valley, Delview Secondary.
On Thursday, Nov. 1 the Totems travelled to Delta to take on the Delview squad and the teams looked up to the task, providing some top quality soccer for the fans to watch.
After the Totems lost two players to injuries, Delview started to take control.
However, Aldergrove put up a strong battle, working extremely hard to keep the opposition away from their net.
At the end of regulation the game remained scoreless and the Totems used their experiences in overtime from earlier in the week to stay in the game as well as creating their own scoring opportunities.
Overtime ended with the game still scoreless and the ensuing penalty kicks followed to decide the winner.
Delview missed on its first attempt while the Aldergrove shooters went five-for-five on their shots giving them the victory and a spot in the Fraser Valley final.
