The best-of-seven Mann Cup series between the host Peterborough Lakers and visiting Langley Thunder has come down to a best-of-three.

With the winner being crowned Canadian senior A boxla champions either Saturday or Sunday.

The Lakers tied the series at two games apiece with a 9-8 win Wednesday in front of a full house of 3,604 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

The Thunder trailed 9-5 before scoring the final three goals of the game from Joel McCready, Garrett Billings, and Athan Iannucci’s fourth of the night with 5:27 to go in regulation.

Iannucci’s tally brought the Thunder to within a goal, but that was as close as the Western Lacrosse Association champion would come.

The Thunder was outshot 54-34 by the Lakers, who have now overcome a 2-0 series deficit after losing the first two games. In a Langley cause, the Thunder’s Brodie MacDonald had a strong game in net, stopping 45 shots.

Mark Steenhuis stung the Thunder defence a hat trick. With a balanced attack, six other Lakers found the net for the home team.

Brett Hickey and Shayne Jackson had the other Thunder goals.

The pivotal game five of the series goes Friday, followed by game six Saturday. If necessary, a game seven will be played Sunday, all at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
