Saturday’s track and field meet at McLeod Athletic Park was a preview of what’s coming to Langley in a year’s time.

A total of 218 intellectually challenged athletes from across B.C. took part in the regional qualifier for the 2013 Provincial Special Olympics Summer Games, being hosted by Langley next summer.

The day-long event at MAP attracted competitors from as far away as the B.C. Interior. They competed in events ranging from sprint running, to long jump, to shotput.

In March, it was announced that Langley will host the Games during the summer of 2013 [BC Special O coming to Langley, March 29, Langley Advance].

More than 1,100 Special Olympians along with 300 coaches will be coming to Langley to compete in 11 summer sports.

“Special Olympics BC is excited to be hosting our 2013 Provincial Summer Games in Langley Township,” remarked SOBC vice president of sport Lois McNary.
