A Coquitlam Express team that's only made two stops at the "Winnersville" station in 2013 visited the Langley Events Centre on Tuesday.

And the host Langley Rivermen kept the slumping Express off track.

The Express is now 2-10 in 2013 after losing 7-1 to the Rivermen, who widened the gap between themselves and their Coquitlam rivals in the battle for the fourth and final playoff spot in the B.C. Hockey League Mainland Division.

Going into the game, the Rivermen had owned the season series, winning the last five meetings between the teams while holding a 5-2 edge in victories.

For the seventh time in a row, Langley goaltender James Barr would go up against Coquitlam puckstopper Cole Huggins between the pipes.

The Rivermen got off to a great start as Ben Butcher opened the scoring just past the four-minute mark.

The 1-0 lead would last 10 minutes before Evan Campbell put away his 12th of the season on a pretty passing play.

Evan Anderson found Mario Puskarich at the side of the goal who then centered the puck to Campbell, who made no mistake.

In the second period, the Express would get one back on a goal from Adam Rossignol.

The 2-1 game was short-lived however, as Langley's Jakob Reichert found the back of the net. The play started with a long breakout pass from none other than James Barr. Langley's puckstopper saw Coquitlam was changing and fired a long pass to Austin Azurdia at the attacking blueline.

Azurdia then found Reichert on the left wing and he fired the puck five-hole on Huggins.

The next time Reichert was out on the ice he scored again. This time James Robinson picked the pocket of the Express's Cam Marks behind the Coquitlam net and spotted Azurdia, who was stopped by Huggins' right pad.

Reichert followed up and slid the rebound into the goal to make it 4-1.

With less than two minutes to go, Derek Sutliffe capped the second period by scoring on a giveaway in front of the Express crease to put his team up by four.

In the third period, backup goaltender Daniel Urbani came in to replace Huggins.

At the 12: 39 mark, Azurdia and Butcher connected on a pretty passing play on the man advantage. Azurdia was in the slot and fed Butcher near the right post.

Azurdia went to the net and collected a sweet no-look, between-the-legs pass back from Butcher to tap in his 15th goal of the campaign.

Langley defenceman Viktor Dombrovskiy scored the last goal of the game on a great individual effort, going end to end before roofing a shot over Urbani from the high slot.

Barr was named the game's first star turning away 46 shots on the night.

The Rivermen, who improved to 1819-1-5 on the season, are now five points clear on the 18-28-1-0 Express and will welcome the Victoria Grizzlies to town on Friday, which will be the second annual parents' weekend and silent auction.

Game time at the LEC is 7: 15 p.m.

The next night, Saturday, Feb. 9, the 'Men host the Merritt Centennials at the LEC.

Opening puck drop is also 7: 15 p.m.
