A positive influence

One of Canada’s best ever women hockey players will be in Langley later this week.

Cassie Campbell-Pascall, a former member of the Women’s National Team, will taking part in the Chevrolet Safe & Fun Hockey festival at the Langley Events Centre Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10 and 11.

The Chevrolet Safe & Fun Hockey festival, organized by General Motors of Canada and Hockey Canada, is a grassroots initiative developed for young hockey players between the ages of five and eight.

In partnership with Hockey Canada, the Chevrolet Safe & Fun Hockey program was developed for parents, minor league players, and coaches to be much more than a “how to” course on the fundamentals of hockey.

It’s also a philosophy that’s designed to help today’s hockey enthusiasts develop a positive attitude towards healthy competition, co-operative teamwork, fair play and grace under pressure.

The festivals, which are held around the country, allow about 100 young players on and off-ice sessions geared twoards promoting respect and responsibility in the game – and in life.

Kids who qualify to participate will have a chance to develop their skills with the likes of Campbell-Pascall, or the other two event ambassadors Canadian hockey greats who have thrown their support behind this project: Bobby Orr and Mike Bossy.

In addition, attending parents also get the chance to take part in Hockey Canada seminars designed to help effectrively communicate the philosophy of a game that is truly “safe and fun.”

A festival was held in Newfoundland at the end of August, and the event this weekend in Langley is geared to female players only.
