Langley Whitecaps for capped Saturday by the Coquitlam Chettahs

Painful end for Langley Whitecaps

The U17 girls soccer team ended the season third in the league.

Langley Whitecaps U17 girls soccer team ended the season on a sour note, the last game Saturday, sadly plagued by injuries.

The Whitecaps , part of the Coastal Girls Soccer League, finished out the season this past weekend at McLeod Athletic Park, with a loss to the Coquitlam Cheetahs of 5-0.

It was a rough game for the girls, said coach Chris Leonard.

They lost a midfielder early in the game to a mild concussion, then their “star” striker Charity Van Spronsen to a strained ligament in her knee. She has had other leg issues this year, but is expected to be fine in a few weeks.

Nevertheless, it was a sad end to the season, Leonard said.

Despite the loss this weekend, the team managed to finish the season third in the league.

Because of the bad weather this season, playoffs were called off. So teams are ranked based on their standing through the season, Leonard explained.
