Langley gymnast Tyler Welch placed first on floor, rings, and high bar at the Western Canadian Championships.
Langley Gymnastics Foundation athletes were in fine form at the 2013 Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships held May 2-4 at the Max Bell Centre in Winnipeg.
National Open gymnast Tyler Welch led the way by placing first on floor, rings, and high bar, third on pommel, and second all-around.
He also qualified for finals in floor (first), pommel (third), rings (second), vault (sixth), parallel bars (fifth), and high bar (first).
LGF sent the following athletes as part of Team BC:
- Allyson Armstrong - Provincial Level 5 Tyro;
- Haley Biggin - Provincial Level 5 Tyro;
- Lauren Van Harmelen - Provincial Level 5 Tyro;
- Abby Strand - Provincial Level 5 Novice;
- Stephanie Bedry - National Open;
- Ben Strybos - High Performance Pre Argo;
- Kevin Naismith - National Youth; and
- Tyler Welch - National Open.
As well LGF sent a trio of Provincial 4 athletes to participate in the invitational that was attached to Western Championships. They were:
- Sophia Walters - Provincial Level 4 Tyro;
- Paula Urquidi - Provincial Level 4 Tyro; and
- Sumara Stroshein-Blagborne - Level 4 Open.
Level 4 Tyro
Sophia Walters placed first on vault, second on bars and beam, and first all-around.
Paula Urquidi placed fourth on vault bars and floor and fourth all-around.
Level 4 Open
Sumara Stroshein-Blagborne placed third on bars and tied for first all-around.
Level 5 Tyro
Allyson Armstrong placed first on vault and first on bars and came fourth all-around.
Haley Biggin placed second on beam and tied for fifth all-around.
Lauren Van Harmelen placed second on vault, first on floor, and eighth all-around.
Level 5 Novice
Abby Strand placed third on beam and fourth all around, while qualifying for event finals for vault (placed seventh), beam (first), and floor (ninth).
Women's National Open
Stephanie Bedry will be competing at the Canadian championships at the end of May.
Men's HP Pre Argo
Ben Strybos placed second on parallel bars and high bar and fifth all-around. As well, he qualified for event finals for floor (sixth), pommel (fourth), parallel bars (fifth), and high bar (second).
Kevin Naismith placed first on floor, second on parallel bars, and second on high bar. All-around he placed third. He also qualified for event finals for floor (first), pommel (fifth), rings (third), parallel bars (fourth), and high bar (second).
