The Peterborough Lakers have clawed back into the Mann Cup series.
The Lakers outscored the Langley Thunder 14-10 Monday at the Peterborough Memorial Centre, to notch their first win of the best-of-seven, Canadian senior A lacrosse championship series.
The Thunder hold a 2-1 series lead heading into Wednesdays game four match-up in Peterborough.
Judging from the third period of Mondays game, the Thunder ran out of steam in the late going.
Langley led 9-7 at the 5:46 mark of the final frame when Jordan MacIntosh scored the first of six unanswered Peterborough markers, as the Lakers jumped ahead 13-9 before going on to win by four-goal margin.
The Lakers dominated, shot-wise, firing 53 shots on goal to the Thunders 37.
We let our guard go away, Thunder head coach Rod Jensen said. We ran out of steam and this team [Peterborough] has a lot of experience a lot of superstars. They understood they were under the gun and they elevated their game and outworked us the last 15 minutes of the [third] period.
The Thunder players arent letting the loss get to them, according to their head coach.
I thought it would bother our guys, but our guys are good to go, Jensen said. We know they are tough to beat but we can beat them. Weve seen their best. We have many ways to expose them; we just have to do it and do it consistently.
Athan Iannucci led Langleys offence with four goals. Tor Reinholdt and Alex Turner each tallied a pair while captain Matt Leveque (with his teams final goal of the night) and Lewis Ratcliff (who added four assists) also scored for the Western Lacrosse Association champion Thunder.
Garrett Billings had five helpers in a losing cause.
For Peterborough, MacIntosh and John Grant had matching hat tricks. Grant also levied a game-high 13 shots on goal.
The Lakers are no strangers to Mann Cup success. Over the past decade, they have won the Canadian senior A boxla title four times: in 2004,06, 07, and most recently, 2010, when they defeated the New Westminster Salmonbellies in six games.
They know how to win, Jensen said.
