Representing Zone 4, Fraser River-Delta trounced its Zone 7 North West opponents 86-3 to open the BC Summer Games boys basketball tournament.
In a game that tipped off at 8 a.m. at the Langley Events Centre, Zone 4 jumped out to a 50-0 halftime lead, and increased its advantage to 80-3 after three quarters of play.
Zone 4 let its foot off the gas pedal in the final quarter, out-scoring Zone 7 by a 6-0 count in the final quarter.
Zone 7's Drew Kenmuir (Terrace) broke the goose-egg with a successful free throw and a nifty layup with just under six minutes to go in the third stanza.
Leading Fraser River-Delta's offence was Antonio Jhuty (Richmond) with 20 points, and Jan Paul Daquioag (Richmond) with 17 points.
"I'm so happy that my team played good," Daquioag said. "We played defence and everything. We hustled so much."
Jhuty said, with their team up by such a large margin, the Fraser River-Delta players simply had to stick to their game plan.
"We just listened to the coach and stayed focused on the game," he said. "Just play what you have to play."
Jhuty said the lopsided win gives Fraser River-Delta momentum heading into its second game of the day against Vancouver-Squamish.
"This is a big motivation for us," he said. "Now we have confidence."
