A nine-year-old Langley Olympian was as good as gold at the UBC Aquatic Centre on the first of the month.
On Saturday, Dec. 1, Hugh McNeill starred amongst a group of Langley Olympian Swim Club members who took part in the annual Vancouver Pacific Swim Club 10 & Under Invitational Meet.
Competiton was tough at the short course (25metre pool) meet, with many top 10 and under swimmers from the Lower Mainland competing.
The LOSC youngsters were up for the challenge, racing well in a fast paced meet.
McNeill set the pace by placing first in all five of his swims to take home the first place trophy in the nine-year-old boys aggregate event.
Bryce Dong, 10, had an impressive meet, taking 14 seconds off his 200-metre IM time to go along with best times in the 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, and 50m freestyle, as he finished fourth overall in the 10-year-old boys competition.
Nine-year-olds Quinn St. Pierre and Alanna Picotte, both competing in only their second meet of this level, placed sixth and eighth, respectively, in their age group.
Milana Solar, 10, achieved 100 per cent best times for her second meet running.
Other Olympians' swimmers who attended this meet included 10-year-olds Sarah Buckingham, Bailey Herbert, Abiah Krause, and Kristy-Anne Miller.
"It is so encouraging to see our youngsters competing well at this level and placing high up against tough competition," Olympians' head coach Brian Metcalfe said.
Olympians' registration is ongoing. Call 604-532-5257 or visit the club's website, www.langleyolympians. com, for details.
