The Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships are about to begin at the Langley Events Centre.

Competition gets underway at the LEC (7888 200th Street, Langley) tomorrow, May 4 at 9 a.m. and will run until Saturday, May 5 at 3: 30 p.m.

For the first time in the event's history, the championships will be broadcast live on the internet.

The webcast will be available at www.langleyeventscentre.com.

Gymnastics BC and the Langley Gymnastics Foundation, in partnership with the LEC, are adding this element to the meet.

With gymnasts travelling to B.C. from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the Northwest Territories, it provides an opportunity for the gymnasts' friends and family to watch the competition.

All five sessions of the championships will be broadcast with Saturday's apparatus finals featuring commentary from senior-level gymnasts LauraAnn Chong (Coquitlam) and Scott Morgan (North Vancouver).

The Western Canadian championships are hosted annually by the western provinces and territories.

For 2012, the competition is being supported by the Hosting BC program.

For those who prefer to cheer on the gymnasts in person, tickets are on sale at the door with prices beginning at $10 with discounts for seniors and students. Children under age six get in free.
