A team of boys soccer players is raising funds for a journey to Jolly Ol' England in early 2011.
The Langley United Youth Soccer Association squad will be taking part in this weekend's Langley Labour Day Michael J. Smith Memorial Tournament while also running the concession and field marshaling at Aldergrove Athletic Park, where all U11 and U12 teams will be playing during the Sept. 4-6 event.
The team consists of 12 boys (10 in the U12 age group and two in the U13 bracket), who will be heading to England for a 10-day trip. Once overseas, they will train with the Barclays Premier League's Bolton Wanderers at Reebok Stadium, just outside Greater Manchester.
"We are feverishly fundraising from now until March in hope to raise a good chunk of each players' costs," said team manager Toni Burgess, who doubles as president of the Langley FC girls soccer club.
The team has a blog set up with information. Visit u12luysaboltontrip.blogspot.com.
