Twisters athletes win B.C. titles, qualify for Westerns

 

Langley gymnasts with Abbotsford's Twisters shone at the B.C. championships last weekend in North Vancouver

 
 
 

Aldergrove resident and Twisters Gymnastics athlete Carissa Williams is B.C.'s Provincial Level 4 Novice champion.

She was one of a trio of gymnasts from the Abbotsfod team who won provincial titles at the BC Gymnastics Championships, hosted by Flicka Gymnastics and held last weekend (April 13-15) at the Harry Jerome Recreation Centre in North Vancouver.

The Twisters Women's National Open Team placed second place in its category.

Langley gymnasts and Twisters members Kyle Machibroda-Ames and Aidan Daniell qualified for the 2012 Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships being held May 3-5 at Langley Events Centre.

In competition, the women have four disciplines: floor, vault, beam, and uneven bars.

The men compete in six disciplines: pommel horse, high bar, rings, vault, floor, and parallel bars.

Both men and women get an all-around score.

The Level 1 athletes on the men's side get gold, silver, or bronze in all disciplines.

From Langley and Aldergrove:

Paula Melger-Ida, Prov. Level 2 Tyro: tied for bronze on beam; tied for bronze on floor; tied for 12th all-around.

Carissa Williams, Prov. Level 4 Novice: provincial champion on beam; bronze on vault; allaround B.C. champion.

Aiden Daniell, National Youth: 4th on high bar, 7th on floor, 8th on pommel horse, rings, vault, and parallel bars, 8th allaround.

Kayle Machibroda, National Open: silver on rings and parallel bars; bronze on high bar, bronze all-around.
