The top-ranked university women's volleyball team in Canada proved to be too much for visiting Saskatchewan to handle Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.

The Trinity Western University Spartans won their seventh match in a row by knocking off the unranked Saskatchewan Huskies in three consecutive sets.

Set scores were 25-10, 25-19, and 25-11.

With a dominant opening set in which the 7-1 Spartans put together a .429 attacking percentage, the home side launched what would be a dominant night from the first set through to the third.

Other than an impressive 101 Huskies run midway through the second set, it was all TWU on this night as it finished with a .305 attacking percentage compared to the Huskies -.092.

The Huskies dropped to 1-7 with the loss.

Trinity Western finished with 14 aces to the Huskies' four and 10 blocks to Saskatchewan's four.

The Spartans were led by Alicia Perrin who had eight kills, eight blocks, and two aces, and Amber Brown who had seven kills and three aces. Nicole Bazin had a match-high six aces while setter Kelci French recorded 14 assists to go along with five digs and three blocks.

The Spartans had nine different players earn kills.

"We wanted to serve them tough tonight and I thought we did a pretty good job of that," Spartans' coach Ryan Hofer said, following the victory. "We wanted to make sure our offence was running smooth and attack their gaps and just put a lot of pressure on them.

Hofer added, "This game and this weekend was an opportunity for us to give different people some opportunities and try new things. I thought we did that and, in the process, kept developing and gelling as a team."

The Spartans got off to a hot start in the first set as they raced out to a 5-1 lead and never trailed throughout the set.

With momentum from the first set on the Spartans side, TWU continued to roll early in the second set, as it started with a 7-0 run and then pushed its lead to as much as nine points, at 13-4. But with the set seemingly well in hand, the Huskies battled back. Sparked by three aces in four serves from Humbert, Saskatchewan went on a 10-1 run that evened the set at14-14.

But just as the Huskies had got back into the set, TWU responded with an 8-1 run that put the Spartans back in control. This time the Huskies couldn't respond, and after an Amy Ott kill, TWU earned a 25-19 win.

With Bazin again dominating from the service line to start the third set, the Spartans middle earned 10 straight points and from there, TWU never allowed the Huskies any hope.

Trinity Western put it in cruise control down the stretch, and after a block from Perrin and Lauren Moncks, the Spartans won 25-11.

The Spartans are in action Nov. 23-24 when they travel to Winnipeg to face the Wesmen.
