The results weren't what the Langley Xtreme 2000 and 2001 teams had hoped for, but the local entries at the Squirt B (U12) provincial fastpitch championships at Noel Booth Park had a blast, nonetheless.

"The weekend was a total success and everyone had a great time," reported Xtreme 2000 assistant coach Dave Duddy.

"Everyone left Sunday and were very complementary, and the reviews were terrific."

Friday's opening ceremonies were delayed while a couple of teams went into extra innings (nine total) so all the players decided to have a improv dance party on the diamond while they waited, Duddy said.

"The dinner and the jamboree/ cheering competition finished off a great Friday and everyone left happy," Duddy said. "Saturday had terrific ball games all day long with the teams fighting for those hard-toget top eight spots to advance to the playoff round."

As for his own team's fortunes, things did not go as expected.

However, Duddy said all is good.

"Our players played awesome and made some amazing plays and [had] amazing hitting," Duddy said, noting that the Xtreme 2000's Mackenzie Quinn was the only player in the tournament to hit a home run over the six-foot high fences, set 165 feet away.

As expected, the tournament was very competitive.

"With all the good teams playing each other, you knew by the way some of the tournament draws were, that a lot of good teams were going to knock each other out, and that is what happened to us," Duddy said. "There were a lot of good teams that did not make it to the final eight to play down for the championship and we were one of them."

As for the younger, Xtreme 2001 squad, Duddy said its players "really held their own."

The winners and the 2012 provincial champions of U12B girls fastpitch are the Langford Lightning.

"They were a very solid club," Duddy said.

Langford defeated the North Van Stars 2000 by a 3-1 score in the final.

The South Delta Invaders 2000 took third spot.
