The Trinity Western University men's and women's cross country teams put together a dominant effort at the B.C. provincial championships.
TWU's Blair Johnston and Fiona Benson both finished third in their respective senior races, while Levi Neufeld and Joel De Schiffart finished first and second, in that order, in their junior race Saturday at Clearbrook Park.
With their efforts, all four automatically qualified for the Canadian Championships Nov. 24 in Vancouver.
"Blair ran the gutsiest race of the day as he put together a great performance racing against national team member Chris Winter and Geoffrey Martinson," Spartans' endurance coach Mark Bomba said. "He now puts himself in a position to be in the mix for a top 10 finish at nationals.
"Levi and Joel had great races and just it goes to show how far they've come in two months. For Fiona, it was a great confidence builder as she's been sick of late. Her progression over the last few weeks has been remarkable."
Johnston finished the 10 kilometre senior men's race in a time of 32:49.22 while Benson finished the six kilometre senior women's event in 22:25.65.
Also in the senior men's race, TWU's Mihai Prajea finished 21st in 35:45.92 and Chris Voth finished 22nd in 35:46.22.
In the junior boys' seven kilometre race, Neufeld won in a time of 22:45.75 while De Schiffart was close behind, finishing second in 22:54.91. Nathan Goodwin finished ninth in 25:20.80 while Ross Browne was 11th in 26:00.97.
In the junior girls' race, the Spartans' Meg Harradine finished 14th in 20:24.09, Nikki Bell finished 18th in 21:50.19, Katelynn Ramage finished 19th in 22:03.10 and Laura Merkel finished 21st in 23:17.97.
The Spartans will now gear up for the CIS national championships Nov. 10 in London, Ont. hosted by Western University.
