After a hugely popular debut at the Langley Events Centre in December, 2011, the National Lacrosse League (NLL) is ready for an encore.
Last year, the Toronto Rock and Washington Stealth clashed in an pre-season battle, in front of a capacity crowd at the LEC.
In front of 4,791 fans, Washington needed overtime to clip Toronto 14-13.
This time around, on Saturday, Dec. 8, the Calgary Roughnecks and Colorado Mammoth will meet at the LEC.
Roughnecks captain Andrew McBride called the LEC a "perfect-sized venue for the National Lacrosse League," adding that the game is growing in numbers and popularity.
The NLL game is part of an eventful three days of activities at the LEC, from Dec. 7-9.
The game will feature some of the game's premier stars in John Grant Jr. (Colorado), Gavin Prout (Colorado), Scott Ranger (Calgary) and Shawn Evans (Calgary).
"The National Lacrosse League is pleased to have Langley Events Centre host a second pre-season game following the great success of last year's event", said Brian Lemon, NLL VP of Operations.
The day before the game, Friday, Dec. 8, The second annual Coaches Chalk Talk will take place, followed by a social.
Coaches from both the Roughnecks and Mammoth will host the clinic in conjunction with team practices, allowing coaches to see first-hand how the professionals treat training.
On the Saturday, there will be four players' clinics in which young lacrosse hopefuls will have the chance to register in advance for, and learn from, the best in business on the turf at the LEC.
"Last year was a tremendous success for everyone involved," noted Jared Harman, director of business development at the LEC. "We wanted to duplicate the excitement and increase the clinics to give everyone more of a chance to get involved in the event."
Following the game fans will be able to take part in a free autograph session on the turf, featuring the full rosters from both teams. The autograph session will be followed by a social in the LEC banquet hall.
The lacrosse community has once again provided its full support, led by the BC Lacrosse Association, and is excited to once again see the sport's best competing in the Fraser Valley,
"The BC Lacrosse Association is excited to see the return of professional lacrosse to B.C. and the Langley Events Centre," BCLA president Sohen Gill stated. "Lacrosse has deep roots in this community and many fans follow the homegrown talent in the National Lacrosse League. With the great support and fanfare leading up to this event, hopefully one day the NLL will return to B.C. permanently."
Tickets for the game will go on sale this Saturday, July 21 starting at 11 a.m.
