Rams dominate BCFC awards

The B.C. Football Conference champion Langley Rams are a star-studded bunch.

Team-wise, Langley's junior team finished second in the BCFC regular season standings with a 7-2-1 record.

During the playoffs the Rams shut out Westside in the semifinal before edging the previously undefeated Vancouver Island Raiders in Saturday's championship game in Nanaimo.

Prior to the start of the BCFC playoffs the conference's major award winners and all-stars were announced and to no one's surprise, the Rams dominated.

The Rams had 11 players named as all-stars to lead the conference. Five Rams earned all-star nods on each side of the ball and one player was named twice.

The Raiders had seven players named as all-stars, four of whom were on the offence.

Twenty eight players were named BCFC all-stars.

Only the Rams' Nick Downey was named twice (offensive and special teams).

Rams' offensive all-stars Offensive line: Anthony Daley and Spencer Lang.

Running backs: Daniel Xavier -113 carries, 697 yards, and six touchdowns, with an average carry of 6.2 yards.

Receivers: Nick Downey (second consecutive year) - 37 receptions, 690 yards, and six touchdowns; Malcolm Williams - 42 catches (led BCFC), 768 yards, and 13 touchdowns (led BCFC).

Rams' defensive all-stars Defensive line: Evan Foster - 21 tackles, six assists, 9.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, 81 points; Dan Sharpe - nine tackles, two assists, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, 35 points.

Linebackers: Arie Nakagawa (second consecutive year) - 22 tackles, nine assists, 0.5 sacks, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries; Adam Konar - 16 tackles, seven assists, five sacks, three interceptions, four fumble recoveries, one touchdown, 82 points.

Defensive backs: Nick Felicella (second consecutive year) - nine tackles, six assists, a sack, eight knockdowns, two fumble recoveries, 61 points.

Returner: Nick Downey (third consecutive year) - 35 total returns, 884 return yards, six touchdowns (one kickoff, five punts), averaging 19.8 yards a return.
