The 20th Clash at the Cascades was a big hit.

The show Oct. 6 opened with a public spar between Fort Langley's Sarah Pucek and North Vancouver's Jaime Ward.

"Both are professional boxers getting ready for bouts," said Dave Allison, of City Boxing.

"When both entered the ring, they looked like they could be models, however after the bell sounded, it was clear to see these were two very accomplished boxers."

Ward has just had her pro debut in a card in Edmonton, a bout she won. Pucek is a four-year pro and is getting ready to challenge for a Canadian Championship

It was clear during the spar that Pucek was the more seasoned pro. The 25-year-old Pucek controlled the action.

She will face Montreal's Lucia Larcinese in a championship fight that will take place at Vancouver's Fraserview Hall on Oct. 27. Contact City Boxing at 604-5307897 or Cityboxing@telus.net for more on that match.

The main event for the City welterweight title was a war as long as it lasted with Sunshine Coast's George Vourtsis stopping Jarik Brown of Action Boxing.

The semi main saw Kory Grim stop Revolution's Brandon Shorter in the first. Grim was also injured, so neither fighter progresses to challenge for the City light heavyweight title.

Julian Kim of Port Kells won his light heavyweight contest with a close hard fought decision over Bisla's Darren Featherstone. Mat Andreatta, 18, of City Boxing came up short on a decision against undefeated southpaw Francis Codilla, 23, of Contenders.

"It was a very well fought match with Andreatta being unable to solve the crafty southpaw," Allison said.

North Burnaby's Rob Pryce won a hard fought decision over Randy Hollett of Sunshine Coast in a middleweight fight.

Christian Antonio, a 20-year-old of Port Kells took the decision Scott Woodward, 19, of Four Corners Boxing Club.

Manny Dhillon of Suitela's Martial Arts defeated Sunshine Coast's Justin Lee in a middleweight bout. Remy Lavoie of North Burnaby won a split decision over Sia Fard of Action Gym.

A draw bout saw 11-years-olds Gavin Bisla of Bisla's and Josh Lauriente of Port Kells put on a great show.

"Although it was an exciting night of boxing with a war in the main event, the talk around the ring was the quality and calibre of the public spar between Pucek and Ward," Allison said.

The next Clash will be Guys & Dolls II, featuring Alisah McPhee challenging for a B.C. championship. Clash 21 will take place Nov. 2.
