Twelve swimmers from the Langley Olympians Swim Club (LOCS) headed to Calgary late last month to take part, and excel, in the 2012 Age Group Nationals.

The meet was attended by more than 1,600 of the top age group swimmers in Canada, and took place over five days from July 25-29.

The Langley swimmers had a strong outing, with many of them winning medals, making finals, and swimming to best times.

Hillary Metcalfe, 14, won gold in the 14-year-old girls 50-metre breaststroke. Metcalfe won the event in 33.43 seconds, setting a new club record in the 13-14 girls age group. She went on to win silver in the 14-year-old girls 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke, and 200m IM.

Justin Schramm swam to gold in the 14-year-old boys 200m fly. His time of 2: 11.32 set a new club record in the boys 13-14 age group. Reaching the podium again, Schramm won bronze in the 14-yearold boys 200m freestyle. He also placed fourth in the 400m freestyle, seventh in the 100m freestyle, and eighth in the 100m fly.

Renae Ledoux, 12, was a medal winner on the first day of competition, earning a bronze in the 12 & under girls 50m breaststroke with a new best time of 35.43 seconds. Ledoux made finals in the 100m breaststroke placing fourth overall, to go with a fifth-place result in the 200m breaststroke.

Robyn Nakano earned a bronze medal in the 13year-old girls 200m fly, and finished sixth overall in the 100m fly.

Chelsea Borrowdale, 13, just missed out on a medal in the 13-year-old girls 200m breaststroke, racing to fourth place. She was also seventh in the 100m breaststroke and eighth in the 200m fly.

Three LOSC swimmers left the meet with 100 per cent best times: 16-yearolds Ryan Moloney and Josh Franklin and 12-yearold Kelley MacDonald.

Olympians head coach Brian Metcalfe praised his team's performance.

"We produced some great swims with superb racing," Metcalfe said.

"It's fantastic to have so many of our swimmers making finals and to see LOSC swimmers on the podium receiving their medals was overwhelming."

LOSC finished 25th overall in team standings.

The 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals took place in Edmonton July 19-22 and a trio of LOSC swimmers were there to compete.

Jake Tapp, Chelsey Salli, and Charlie Tapp carried the Olympians' banner at the meet.

Jake Tapp was the star of the trio, bringing home gold medals in the men's 100m backstroke, 100m fly, and 200m IM.

Salli won silver in the women's 50m breaststroke, while also making finals in her other events. She placed fifth in the 200m breaststroke, sixth in the 100m breaststroke, and 10th in the 200m IM.

Charlie Tapp finished fifth overall in the men's 50m freestyle and 10th in the 50m fly.
