Olympians dominate meet

 

Club and meet records fell after another dominating performance by Langley swimmers.

 
 
 

Members of the Langley Olympian Swim Club continue to pool strong results this season.

Last weekend LOSC swimmers came away with some great swims from a two-day meet in Vancouver.

Canadian Dolphins Swim Club hosted the short course meet (25 metre pool) at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre.

The meet was attended by a large number of the top swimmers from the Lower Mainland and a team from Washington State. The Langley swimmers had their racing suits on and came away with some great swims.

Hillary Metcalfe, 13, set a new club record in the 13-14 girls 400m freestyle. Her time of 4:30.60 also gave her a meet record in this event. Metcalfe also earned a meet record in the 13-year-old girls 400m IM.

Justin Schramm, 13, broke the 13-14 boys club record 200m in fly in a time of 2:14.30, which broke the previous meet record in this event.

Martha Metcalfe, 15, took a meet record in the 15-year-old girls 400m IM in 5:08.42.

Robyn Nakano, 12, swam to a meet record in the 12-year-old girls 200m backstroke, finishing in a time of 2:30.72.

As well as setting all these new records, LOSC members came away with lots of medals;

First place

- Siobhan Board, 14, in the 14-year-old girls 100m fly, 200m freestyle, and 400m freestyle;

- Chelsea Borrowdale, 12, in the 12-year-old girls 200m breaststroke, 400m IM, 100m breaststroke, 400m freestyle;

- Lisa Grier, 11, in the 11 & under girls 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and 400m freestyle;

- Michael MacDonald, 16, in the 16 & over boys 400m IM, 200m freestyle, and 400m freestyle;

- Hillary Metcalfe , 13, in the 13-year-old girls 200m breaststroke, 400m IM, 200m freestyle, 200m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle, and 400m freestyle;

- Martha Metcalfe, 15, in the 15-year-old old girls 400m IM, 200m freestyle, 200m fly, and 100m freestyle;

- Robyn Nakano, 12, in the 12-year-old old girls 100m fly, 200m freestyle, 200m backstroke, 100m backstroke, and 200m fly; and

- Justin Schramm, 13, in the 13-year-old boys 100m fly, 400m IM, 200m freestyle, 200m fly, 100m freestyle, and 400m freestyle.

Second place

- Siobhan Board in the 100m fly, 100m backstroke, and 100m freestyle;

- Chelsea Borrowdale in the 200m freestyle and 200m fly;

- Mackenzie Dong, 11, in the 11 & under girls 400m IM;

- Kennedy Douglas, 12, in the 12-year-old old girls 400m IM and 100m breaststroke;

- Jenessa Hillman, 11, in the 11 & under girls 400m freestyle;

- Michael MacDonald in the 200m backstroke, 100m backstroke, and 100m freestyle;

- Martha Metcalfe in the 50m freestyle, 200m backstroke, and 400m freestyle;

- Ryan Moloney, 16, in the 16 & over boys 200m fly and 400m freestyle;

- Robyn Nakano in the 50m freestyle and 400m freestyle; and

- Gabby Szalkai, 12, in the 12-year-old old girls 100m fly.

3rd Place

- Siobhan Board in the 200m backstroke;

- Mackenzie Dong in the 200m freestyle and 400m freestyle;

- Kennedy Douglas in the 200m breaststroke;

- Renae Ledoux, 12, in the 12-year-old old girls 200m freestyle and 400m freestyle;

- Michael MacDonald in the 100m fly;

- Justin Schramm in the 200m backstroke; and

- Gabby Szalkai in the 200m fly.

Other achievements at the meet included 10-year-old Ellen Lansing achieving her B.C. 'AA' provincial time in the 200m breaststroke in a time of 3:34.02, and Erin Moloney, 12, who swam to 100 per cent best times.

LOSC head coach Brian Metcalfe said of the weekend's results, "This was a tough weekend for the team as they all competed the previous weekend and they have been training really hard. The whole team were racing well and I am very pleased with the results."
